Short Bio

Dana Schirwon was a research fellow at DGAP’s Center for Climate and Foreign Policy from January 22, 2022 to December 31, 2023. She conducted research on climate and law. Her research focused on questions of international law in the context of the climate crisis. She emphasized international legal solutions to accomplish climate justice globally and pursued a feminist approach.

Previously, Schirwon worked as a law clerk, for example in the legal department of Germany’s Federal Foreign Office. Before that, she was a research associate at an international law firm in the fields of German and European energy law, international trade, and public international law. From 2016 to 2017, she was a research associate at the Federal State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Schirwon wrote her doctoral thesis at the University of Cologne. Her PhD in the field of international peace and security law was funded by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation. In 2019, she spent a research stay at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem where she concentrated on state practice in the context of the Israeli-Arab conflict. In the same year, she also participated in the PhD program of the Hague Academy of International Law.

Schirwon studied law with a focus on public international law at the University of Cologne and the Uppsala University in Sweden. During her studies, she was a scholar of the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation.

Schirwon was a Fellow of the Think Tank School 2022.
