Short Bio

Dr. David Jalilvand, an associate fellow in DGAP’s Center for Order and Governance in Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia, is an analyst and consultant. He runs the Berlin-based research consultancy Orient Matters, which specializes in the dynamics among geopolitics, economics, and energy in Iran and the Middle East. In this context he regularly travels to the Middle East.

Between 2015 and 2018, Jalilvand worked for the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Berlin, where he headed the Iran project, among other responsibilities. He received his doctorate from the Freie Universität Berlin with a dissertation on the interplay between politics, economics, and energy in Iran. He has also studied at the University of Erfurt, Moscow State Institute for International Relations, and London School of Economics.
